Objective:
Design an exhibition to educate consumers on greenwashing in the personal care industry. I initially wrote my senior thesis on this topic and then designed this exhibit to communicate my findings to the average consumer. The exhibit is focused on a series of shampoo brands I designed utilizing greenwashing tactics and had visitors vote on which one they perceived to be the most eco-friendly. Of course I included a twist when the results were revealed in order to challenge consumers to question their perceptions and encourage them to do their own research. I wanted this exhibit to be very approachable and not feature a lot of text, so I limited the upfront information to a definition and some fascinating statistics to explain to visitors why they should care about avoiding greenwashing. For those who wanted more information, I broke down the details of the exhibit in a take-home flyer.
Result:
Over 600 votes were cast, and over 200 flyers were taken from the exhibit! I used recycled and thrifted materials for the bulk of the exhibit.
